CR-101 Primary Crusher — Mantle Change Isolation

Full isolation of CR-101 for mantle change. Includes upstream CV-200 feed conveyor isolation per interlock requirement.

10 isolation points · Bleed, Block, Chain, Disconnect, Valve
This is a worked example, not an approved procedure

It refers to equipment that does not exist and illustrates the elements 29 CFR 1910.147(c)(4)(ii) requires a procedure to contain. It is not a document to adopt. Under (c)(4)(i) the employer must develop and document energy control procedures specific to their own machines, and under (c)(6) must inspect them at least annually.

The isolation plan

10 points, in sequence

Isolate & lock Isolated, locked and tagged as part of the isolation.
Apply & verify A physical state applied and then verified — not a lockable energy isolating device.
Must stay energised Deliberately left live. Removing this supply would create a hazard rather than remove one.
10
CV-200-HV-ISO Isolate & lock Disconnect

CV-200 feed conveyor drive isolator. Interlocked upstream source - isolate for any CR-101 chamber work.

20
CR-101-CHUTE Isolate & lock Block

Feed chute gate. Blocks material ingress. STORED GRAVITATIONAL - chamber must be confirmed empty.

30
CR-101-HV-ISO Isolate & lock Disconnect

6.6kV main motor isolator. HIGH VOLTAGE - earthing required. Flywheel coasts up to 8 minutes.

40
CR-101-EARTH Isolate & lock Chain

Portable earth application point at the 6.6kV motor terminals. Applied after proving dead.

50
CR-101-LUBE Isolate & lock Disconnect

Lube system pump isolator. Isolate after the main drive has fully stopped.

60
CR-101-HYD-SUP Isolate & lock Valve

Hydraulic supply isolation valve to the mantle adjustment cylinders.

70
CR-101-HYD-ACC Isolate & lock Bleed

Hydraulic accumulator bleed valve. STORED PRESSURE - bleed to zero and verify on the gauge.

80
CV-201-EARTH Apply & verify Chain

Portable earth application point at the 11kV drive. Applied AFTER isolation and proving dead. Removed last.

90
CV-201-HOLDBACK Apply & verify Block

Backstop holdback engagement. Prevents loaded belt runback on the incline. Must be ENGAGED.

100
ETCH-A-N2-PURGE Must stay energised Valve

N2 purge valve for process gas lines. Used DURING isolation to purge toxics; not isolated for the work.

Deliberately incomplete

What your site must supply

This example is structurally complete and factually generic. The things below are the things only you can know — and they are exactly what makes a procedure yours.

  • Your own asset and isolation-point tag numbers. The tags shown are illustrative and refer to equipment that does not exist.
  • The actual location of every disconnect, valve and vent on your equipment.
  • Measured stored-energy magnitudes and the dwell time required to dissipate them.
  • Your verification method for each point, and who is authorised to perform it.
  • Any additional energy sources present on your equipment and absent here.

Author this properly, once

Setyr holds procedures like this as living documents — bound to real isolation points, with lock registries, group lockout, person-in-charge custody and periodic review built in.
