CR-101 Primary Crusher — Mantle Change Isolation

Mining & aggregates

Full isolation of CR-101 for mantle change. Includes upstream CV-200 feed conveyor isolation per interlock requirement.

This is a worked example, not a procedure you can adopt. It describes equipment that does not exist, with illustrative tag numbers. 29 CFR 1910.147(c)(4) requires the employer to develop, document and utilise energy control procedures specific to their own machines, and (c)(6) requires the employer to inspect those procedures periodically. Neither duty can be delegated to a vendor or discharged by this document.

Isolation points

#Tag (illustrative)TypeDispositionWhat it does and whyDwell
10CV-200-HV-ISODisconnectIsolate & lockCV-200 feed conveyor drive isolator. Interlocked upstream source - isolate for any CR-101 chamber work. —
20CR-101-CHUTEBlockIsolate & lockFeed chute gate. Blocks material ingress. STORED GRAVITATIONAL - chamber must be confirmed empty. —
30CR-101-HV-ISODisconnectIsolate & lock6.6kV main motor isolator. HIGH VOLTAGE - earthing required. Flywheel coasts up to 8 minutes. —
40CR-101-EARTHChainIsolate & lockPortable earth application point at the 6.6kV motor terminals. Applied after proving dead. —
50CR-101-LUBEDisconnectIsolate & lockLube system pump isolator. Isolate after the main drive has fully stopped. —
60CR-101-HYD-SUPValveIsolate & lockHydraulic supply isolation valve to the mantle adjustment cylinders. —
70CR-101-HYD-ACCBleedIsolate & lockHydraulic accumulator bleed valve. STORED PRESSURE - bleed to zero and verify on the gauge. —
80CV-201-EARTHChainApply & verifyPortable earth application point at the 11kV drive. Applied AFTER isolation and proving dead. Removed last. —
90CV-201-HOLDBACKBlockApply & verifyBackstop holdback engagement. Prevents loaded belt runback on the incline. Must be ENGAGED. —
100CR-101-HOIST-ISODisconnectKEEP ENERGISEDLocal disconnect feeding the 5-tonne maintenance hoist over the crusher deck. The hoist lifts the mantle and concave liners clear of the shell, so it is required for this work and is deliberately left energised.
Caution: Isolating the whole crusher MCC takes the maintenance hoist with it. Verify the hoist feed is on a separate supply before locking the MCC.
Do NOT isolate. Confirm the disconnect is closed and the hoist pendant is live before the crew commits to the lift.

What your site must supply

  • Your own asset and isolation-point tag numbers. The tags shown are illustrative and refer to equipment that does not exist.
  • The actual location of every disconnect, valve and vent on your equipment.
  • Measured stored-energy magnitudes and the dwell time required to dissipate them.
  • Your verification method for each point, and who is authorised to perform it.
  • Any additional energy sources present on your equipment and absent here.

Authorship and validation

This example was authored by Setyr for domain validation. It is not derived from any customer's controlled documents. It illustrates the elements 29 CFR 1910.147(c)(4)(ii) requires a procedure to contain — it does not certify compliance, which is a property of an employer's programme rather than of any document.
