FL-3 Filler - Capper Head Service and Bowl Entry

Capper head rebuild plus filler bowl internal inspection. Includes DP-1 depalletizer isolation and CO2 purge.

13 isolation points · Bleed, Block, Disconnect, Drain, Valve
This is a worked example, not an approved procedure

It refers to equipment that does not exist and illustrates the elements 29 CFR 1910.147(c)(4)(ii) requires a procedure to contain. It is not a document to adopt. Under (c)(4)(i) the employer must develop and document energy control procedures specific to their own machines, and under (c)(6) must inspect them at least annually.

The isolation plan

13 points, in sequence

Isolate & lock Isolated, locked and tagged as part of the isolation.
Apply & verify A physical state applied and then verified — not a lockable energy isolating device.
Must stay energised Deliberately left live. Removing this supply would create a hazard rather than remove one.
30
FL-3-CO2 Isolate & lock Valve

CO2 counter-pressure supply. ASPHYXIANT in the bowl and pit. Isolate and vent before entry.

40
FL-3-CIP-CAUSTIC Isolate & lock Valve

CIP caustic supply valve. CHEMICAL - hot caustic. Blind or double-block before opening the bowl.

50
FL-3-CIP-PAA Isolate & lock Valve

CIP peracetic acid supply valve. CHEMICAL - oxidiser, do not mix with caustic residue.

60
FL-3-CIP-HOTWTR Isolate & lock Valve

CIP hot water supply valve. THERMAL - 85C. Allow cooldown before bowl entry.

70
FL-3-CAP-HYD Isolate & lock Valve

Capper head hydraulic supply valve. Ram circuit holds pressure independently of the pump.

80
FL-3-CAP-BLEED Isolate & lock Bleed

Capper ram accumulator bleed. STORED PRESSURE - dump to zero and confirm on the gauge before any head work.

90
FL-3-CDA Isolate & lock Valve

Cell compressed air supply at the L-O-X valve. Feeds clamps, reject gates and change parts.

100
FL-3-CDA-BLEED Isolate & lock Bleed

CDA bleed downstream of the L-O-X. Trapped air remains in cylinders after header isolation.

110
FL-3-BOWL-DRAIN Isolate & lock Drain

Filler bowl drain. Confirm bowl empty and at atmosphere before any internal work.

120
FL-3-CAP-BLOCK Apply & verify Block

Capper head mechanical support block. GRAVITY - head drops when hydraulic pressure is released.

130
FL-3-ROOM-VENT Must stay energised Valve

Filler room CO2 extraction fan. Must REMAIN RUNNING - CO2 is heavier than air and pools in the pit.

140
FL-3-MAIN-DISC Isolate & lock Disconnect

Filler main drive disconnect, 480V. De-energises carousel, capper and infeed starwheel.

150
DP-1-MAIN-DISC Isolate & lock Disconnect

Depalletizer main drive disconnect. Interlocked upstream source - isolate for any FL-3 infeed work.

Deliberately incomplete

What your site must supply

This example is structurally complete and factually generic. The things below are the things only you can know — and they are exactly what makes a procedure yours.

  • Your own asset and isolation-point tag numbers. The tags shown are illustrative and refer to equipment that does not exist.
  • The actual location of every disconnect, valve and vent on your equipment.
  • Measured stored-energy magnitudes and the dwell time required to dissipate them.
  • Your verification method for each point, and who is authorised to perform it.
  • Any additional energy sources present on your equipment and absent here.

Author this properly, once

Setyr holds procedures like this as living documents — bound to real isolation points, with lock registries, group lockout, person-in-charge custody and periodic review built in.
