FL-3 Filler - Capper Head Service and Bowl Entry
Food & beverage
Capper head rebuild plus filler bowl internal inspection. Includes DP-1 depalletizer isolation and CO2 purge.
This is a worked example, not a procedure you can adopt. It describes equipment that does not exist, with illustrative tag numbers.
29 CFR 1910.147(c)(4) requires the employer to develop, document and
utilise energy control procedures specific to their own machines, and (c)(6)
requires the employer to inspect those procedures periodically. Neither duty
can be delegated to a vendor or discharged by this document.
Isolation points
| # | Tag (illustrative) | Type | Disposition | What it does and why | Dwell |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 30 | FL-3-CO2 | Valve | Isolate & lock | CO2 counter-pressure supply. ASPHYXIANT in the bowl and pit. Isolate and vent before entry. | — |
| 40 | FL-3-CIP-CAUSTIC | Valve | Isolate & lock | CIP caustic supply valve. CHEMICAL - hot caustic. Blind or double-block before opening the bowl. | — |
| 50 | FL-3-CIP-PAA | Valve | Isolate & lock | CIP peracetic acid supply valve. CHEMICAL - oxidiser, do not mix with caustic residue. | — |
| 60 | FL-3-CIP-HOTWTR | Valve | Isolate & lock | CIP hot water supply valve. THERMAL - 85C. Allow cooldown before bowl entry. | — |
| 70 | FL-3-CAP-HYD | Valve | Isolate & lock | Capper head hydraulic supply valve. Ram circuit holds pressure independently of the pump. | — |
| 80 | FL-3-CAP-BLEED | Bleed | Isolate & lock | Capper ram accumulator bleed. STORED PRESSURE - dump to zero and confirm on the gauge before any head work. | — |
| 90 | FL-3-CDA | Valve | Isolate & lock | Cell compressed air supply at the L-O-X valve. Feeds clamps, reject gates and change parts. | — |
| 100 | FL-3-CDA-BLEED | Bleed | Isolate & lock | CDA bleed downstream of the L-O-X. Trapped air remains in cylinders after header isolation. | — |
| 110 | FL-3-BOWL-DRAIN | Drain | Isolate & lock | Filler bowl drain. Confirm bowl empty and at atmosphere before any internal work. | — |
| 120 | FL-3-CAP-BLOCK | Block | Apply & verify | Capper head mechanical support block. GRAVITY - head drops when hydraulic pressure is released. | — |
| 130 | FL-3-ROOM-VENT | Valve | KEEP ENERGISED | Filler room CO2 extraction fan. Must REMAIN RUNNING - CO2 is heavier than air and pools in the pit. | — |
| 140 | FL-3-MAIN-DISC | Disconnect | Isolate & lock | Filler main drive disconnect, 480V. De-energises carousel, capper and infeed starwheel. | — |
| 150 | DP-1-MAIN-DISC | Disconnect | Isolate & lock | Depalletizer main drive disconnect. Interlocked upstream source - isolate for any FL-3 infeed work. | — |
What your site must supply
- Your own asset and isolation-point tag numbers. The tags shown are illustrative and refer to equipment that does not exist.
- The actual location of every disconnect, valve and vent on your equipment.
- Measured stored-energy magnitudes and the dwell time required to dissipate them.
- Your verification method for each point, and who is authorised to perform it.
- Any additional energy sources present on your equipment and absent here.
Authorship and validation
This example was authored by Setyr for domain validation. It is not derived from any customer's controlled documents. It illustrates the elements 29 CFR 1910.147(c)(4)(ii) requires a procedure to contain — it does not certify compliance, which is a property of an employer's programme rather than of any document.
