TK-401 Nozzle Weld Repair - Hot Work
Weld repair to the 6in outlet nozzle on TK-401. NFPA 51B hot work. Fire watch 30 minutes after work stops.
It refers to equipment that does not exist and illustrates the elements 29 CFR 1910.147(c)(4)(ii) requires a procedure to contain. It is not a document to adopt. Under (c)(4)(i) the employer must develop and document energy control procedures specific to their own machines, and under (c)(6) must inspect them at least annually.

10 points, in sequence
Tank drained, gas-freed and purged. Confirm on the gas-free certificate before any ignition source.
Vapour recovery line isolation valve. Prevents hydrocarbon vapour migrating back to the work.
Inlet line spectacle blind turned to BLANK. Positive isolation - a closed valve is not enough for hot work.
Combustibles within 35 feet removed or shielded with fire blankets. Includes above, below and behind walls.
Floor and wall openings within 35 feet sealed. Sparks travel through gaps to hidden combustibles.
Fire extinguisher rated 2-A:20-B:C staged within 30 feet, inspected and in date.
Gas cylinders upright, chained and outside the hot work zone. Barrier required within 20 feet of flame.
Fire watch posted, trained and equipped. Must REMAIN for 30 minutes after work stops - OSHA 1910.252.
Combustible gas test in the work zone. Any reading at or above 10 percent LEL stops the work.
Sprinkler system in service and NOT impaired. Must REMAIN LIVE - it is the fire protection for this work.
